Dear Visitors, Dear Members of the University Community,
The University of Pécs – Hungary’s first university – has played an outstanding role in Hungarian scientific and educational life for centuries. It has not only been a center for preserving and transmitting knowledge, but also a key arena for innovation, progress, and socio-economic cooperation.
In August 2021, a new era began in the life of the institution when the Universitas Quinqueecclesiensis Foundation took over the role of maintainer. The Foundation’s mission is to support the University’s ambitions, to foster the realization of its potential, and to explore further areas of development, which indirectly also serve the advancement of its students.
Recent years have proven that the model change has opened new horizons, granting greater autonomy, more flexible operations, and new resources for the institution. Today, the number of students has surpassed 24,000, and thanks to the high-level work of its 1,400 lecturers and researchers as well as its 10 faculties, the University consistently ranks among the top both nationally and internationally.
As Chairman of the Board of Trustees, it is an honor for me to support my alma mater. My primary goal is to define, together with the University community and the Board, strategic directions that ensure the institution’s competitiveness in the long term. I am convinced that developing education is also the driving force of the economy of the future, and together with the Foundation, we strive to create an environment in which our lecturers, researchers, students, and staff can give their very best.
I believe that we can achieve results that will further strengthen the University of Pécs’s position as one of the most important knowledge bases of the country and the region.
I thank you all for your work, support, and dedication in ensuring that, as “Hungary’s first university,” we continue to serve as an international example—through the successes achieved here, the opportunities seized, and the strength of our student community alike.
