Sustainability at Green University Program

In 2016, the PTE symbolically laid the foundation stone of the Green University Program, which defined as its mission to encourage good practice, innovation and leadership in all aspects of sustainability and sustainable management, and to shape and strengthen ecological awareness through science and education. The University of Pécs is 23rd in the world ranking of "green universities" out of 1183 universities. Among Hungarian universities the PTE is ranked 1st, making it the most environmentally conscious Hungarian university.

Significant efforts have been made to achieve this result, some of which are the extension of selective waste collection to the whole university, the implementation of the UP PET-bottle-free University concept, increasing the share of renewable energy sources, climate protection, water management and awareness raising for zero-emission transport. The PTE continues to place a strong emphasis on environmental, social and economic responsibility, on promoting sustainability as widely as possible, and on shaping individual and community attitudes.

Through the Green University Program, the University of Pécs intends to further enhance its sustainability efforts in the future, doing its utmost to promote environmentally conscious attitudes and to spread sustainable solutions vertically and horizontally.

Our aim is to increase the number of participants in sustainability events and Programs that transcend national boundaries, emphasising the importance of action for sustainability.

The volunteers who join the Program bring diverse expectations, ideas, ideological beliefs, and attitudes. This diversity can enhance the Green University Program of the University of Pécs (PTE) by supporting its actions, programmes, and initiatives aimed at achieving the UN's 17 Sustainable Development Goals. Consequently, the Programme can more effectively reach both international and national students.

The main activities of the Programme will take place on the premises of the University of Pécs (faculties, dormitories, other departments), especially at the Chancellory (1/b. Szántó Kovács János street Pécs 7633)

Activities the volunteer takes part in:

Promoting the programmes of the Green University Program: social media management (Facebook, Instagram, TikTok)
Creating articles, interviews with foreign students related to the development of the Green University Program of the PTE
Participating in green events, actions - outreach activities
Assisting at green events and activities, stand design - assistant organizer tasks
Building a Green Student Community of foreign students - organizational, coordinating tasks
Developing online contact forms with international students (networking)
Acting as a sustainability coordinator in the dormitory - working as an organizer, creative and social media officer

Reliable and consistent in meeting commitments and responsibilities
Ability to manage time effectively and complete tasks as assigned
Have experience in the operation of social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, TikTok) and in content creation
Have strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively advocate for sustainability
Is willing to collaborate on projects and share ideas
Is willing to continuously learn and stay updated on new sustainability trends and technologies
