University of Pécs: Building Bridges Through Sports

The University of Pécs (PTE), founded in 1367, carries on the spirit of the first university established in Pécs.

There are 3 pillars in the field of the university's sports strategy:

Organizing community-building mass sports events for all 10 faculties of the institution.
Supporting talented student athletes and helping those who excel in elite sports with applications and other means to ensure that their athletic pursuits and studies can be seamlessly integrated.
Ensuring that all of this is adequately visible in the online space as well.

Addressing a Social Need

Thanks to the University of Pécs' internationalization strategy, the proportion of international students studying in Pécs is growing. According to our surveys, they find it difficult to communicate with the Hungarians and with each other. Surveys have also been conducted on the interest in sports among these students. Access to sports opportunities is also hindered by informational, linguistic, and social differences.

Our Goals

Building a network that will make it possible to increase the number of joint sports activities that transcend national borders
Presenting the diverse cultural backgrounds behind each community event to all PTE citizens Emphasizing the importance of everyday physical education

Activities for Participants

Providing information and showcasing international students' sports activities in English through articles and social media posts.
Developing online communication forms with international students (networking).
Participating in the organization of sporting events.

Benefits for the Local Community and Participants

Applicants can develop their creativity and learn about numerous cultures.
They can get to know different sports and try them out themselves during their activities.
We consider it important to contribute to the applicants' language training (English and/or Hungarian as needed) during the program.
The local community is enriched through diversity, and we build a more inclusive society through a common foundation, preventive sports.
The University of Pécs can advance in the field of international community building through the network.
