Dear Visitors, Dear Members of the University Community,
The University of Pécs – the first University of Hungary – has played an outstanding role in Hungarian academic and educational life for centuries. It has not only been a center for the preservation and transmission of knowledge, but also a defining stage for innovation, progress, and socio-economic cooperation.
In August 2021, a new era began in the life of the institution, when the Universitas Quinqueecclesiensis Foundation took over the role of maintainer. The Foundation’s mission is to support the University’s ambitions, to help unfold its potential, and to explore further areas of development, thereby indirectly serving the advancement of its students as well.
The past period has proven that the model change has opened up new horizons, providing the institution with greater autonomy, more flexible operation, and new resources. Today, student enrollment exceeds 24,000, and thanks to the dedicated work of its 1,400 lecturers and researchers across 10 faculties, the University consistently earns prestigious positions in both national and international rankings.
As the Chairman of the Board of Trustees, it is an honor for me to be able to help my former alma mater. My primary goal is to work together with the University community and the Board to define strategic directions that will ensure the institution’s competitiveness in the long term. I am convinced that the development of education is also the driving force of the economy of the future, and together with the Foundation, we strive to create an environment in which our lecturers, researchers, students, and staff can give their very best.
I believe that we can achieve results that will further strengthen the position of the University of Pécs as one of the most important centers of knowledge in Hungary and the region.
I thank you all for your work, support, and commitment on the path to ensuring that, as “the first University of Hungary,” we may serve as an international example in terms of achievements, opportunities seized, and our student community alike.
Dr. Zsolt Barna
