Besides being the oldest university in the country, the University of Pécs has earned a prominent position in terms of international excellence as well. The entire institution, as well as many of our faculties and study programmes took leading positions in highly recognized international rankings.

The Center for World University Rankings (CWUR) has published its latest 2016 ranking list. The University of Pécs demanded a place for itself among the world’s thousand top universities. The 863th place means that the UP keeps its position and therefore still belongs to the leading 3.6 % of international higher education institutions worldwide!
HVG (Hungarian weekly magazine on economy) university ranking
According to the latest university ranking published by the HVG (Hungarian weekly magazine on economy) our university improved its position and this time proved to be the third strongest university in Hungary. Moreover, two faculties of the university demanded a place for themselves among the top 10 of the Hungarian faculties: the Faculty of Humanities and the Medical School were also placed in the leading group.
The University of Pécs has been placed into category „very good” by StudyPortals, an organisation that compiled a ranking on the basis of student satisfaction surveys carried out in various European universities. On average, foreign students gave more than 8 points (8+) of the maximum 10 to the University of Pécs with which it managed to earn the recognition and award of StudyPortals.
URAP University Ranking by Academic Performance
Based on the results of a highly recognized international research institution, the UP was ranked the 815th of nearly 28 000 higher education institutions in terms of academic performance. This placement highlights that the UP belongs to the leading 3% of higher education worldwide! The ranking is based on factors which exclude any signs of subjectivity; including the academic performance of the institution, citation index, the total journal and citation impact and international collaboration. With respect to the neighbour countries, the UP is ahead of the Universities of Salzburg, Split, Osnabruck and Graz.
UI Green Metric World Ranking Universities
UI GreenMetric released the results of its UI Green Metric World Ranking Universities in 2016. This is the seventh edition of ranking which compares universities’ efforts towards campus sustainability and environment friendly university management. The University of Pécs occupies the 4th position of the Hungarian universities included in this ranking. Globally it’s in position 355.
The Webometrics is the largest internet-based academic ranking of Higher Education Institutions. Every six months since 2004, an independent, objective scientific exercise is performed by the Cybermetrics Lab for providing reliable, multidimensional, updated and useful information about the performance of universities from all over the world based on their web presence and impact.
U-Multirank has profiles of hundreds of universities from all over the world, which provide details about what type of university they are and what they're best at. The innovative system is based on five indicator groups: general research results, the quality of teaching and learning, the degree of international orientation, knowledge transfer and regional engagement. In terms of Masters Programmes, the UP Faculty of Business and Economics was ranked the 56th among the 412 business schools evaluated.
QS World University Ranking
The QS World University Ranking has a complete set of indicators with different weightings: academic reputation , employer reputation, faculty students, citations per faculty, international faculty and international students. The English Language and Literature Course was ranked among the top 200 in 2013. In 2016 the University of Pécs also demanded a prestigious position for itself as a new participant of the top universities’ list. Results are based on 6 criteria, including proportion of students, number of international students and instructors, opinion of employers, citation indices and the judgement of the academic field.

Heti Válasz Hungarian higher education ranking
A new higher education ranking was published by ’Heti Válasz’ (Hungarian weekly newspaper) already for the 12th time. In 2016 rankings evaluating the institutions on the basis of professors’ excellence have also been taken into consideration. This year the Medical School demanded the prestigious second place at the ranking in the field of medical and health science education, undivided general practitioner training and dentist undivided training, too.
Times Higher Education World University Rankings
The Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2016-2017 list the 980 top universities in the world, making it the biggest international league table to date. It is the only global university performance table to judge world class universities across all of their core missions – teaching, research, knowledge transfer and international outlook.
The top universities rankings use 13 carefully calibrated performance indicators to provide the most comprehensive and balanced comparisons available, which are trusted by students, academics, university leaders, industry and governments. The calculation of the rankings for 2016-2017 has been subject to independent audit by professional services firm PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC).
Times Higher Education BRICS & Emerging Economies Rankings 2017.
The University of Pécs was ranked as 122th in the prestigious Times Higher Education BRICS & Emerging Economies Rankings 2017. on 30 November. The inclusion of University of Pécs in the THE BRICS & Emerging Economies rankings is a significant achievement, meaning our institution is one of the top 300 institutions in the 50 countries included in the analysis. Moreover this placement means that the UP could also improve its position with 15 places. The ranking uses the same 13 rigorous performance indicators as the THE World University Rankings.
